Over 100 seniors entering the military service this summer will be recognized along with their parents. Seniors outside of the district will also be invited to attend. This event is a partnership with the Evergreen School District, Vancouver School District and the Community Military Appreciation Committee (CMAC), a local patriot non- profit coalition group that recognizes military service. Speaker: Mr. Douglas Auburg Title: Working on the Railroad with the Doughboys Subject: Douglas Auburg’s father was drafted into the Army and sent to Europe during World War I. As a bugler and working as a machinist, he served with the 33rd Engineer Regiment from May 1918 to May 1919, at the military railroad service facility located midway between Army Expeditionary Force's Port of Embarkation in France and the American Front Lines.

Here's recent news of our ship and our Commissioning Committee. First off, the ship got underway for the first time with an all Navy crew and sailed away from the shipyard in Pascagoula, MS in mid-December. She spent a few days over the Christmas holidays in Key West, FL ,then proceeded to Guantanamo Bay for fueling and on to the Panama Canal, which she transited on January 9th. This is an excellent Historical Ceremony that is great to take part in and while it has an emphasis on Veterans it is open to everyone. Veterans sit in the chairs in the center but everyone is involved and invited to the free meal provided afterwards by NIVA (Northwest Indian Veterans Association). The Ceremony is in the field on the north side of 5th Street across from the reconstructed Fort Vancouver.

Every two years the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs sponsors a state women veterans conference. In April 2018 we will host the 10th 2018 Oregon Women Veterans Conference. This Conference is open only to women veterans and is free to attend, although attendees do have to pay for their travel and lodging.
