The Molly Thompson Memorial Fund is a local fundraising organization established In memory of Molly Michelle Thompson, a four-year-old girl from Tigard Oregon who battled a terminal liver cancer for two years. During her four years of life, Through her spontaneity, acceptance and love for life, Molly taught those around her to laugh through sorrow, play through fear and live through pain. Molly gracefully died on October 4, 1998. It is in the spirit of her life and death that her family & friends have continued Miles from Molly so that other children, like her, will be able to laugh and play through their tough times.
On October 4th, 1998, Molly led what would be our final talk together before she closed her eyes for the last time. As we cradled her in our arms, Molly whispered words that would become the driving force behind her legacy…
“Mommy, Daddy, please take care of my hospital friends”
You could ask a hundred families what it’s like to be hospitalized with your child and you would get a hundred answers. But if you ask the kids, they will tell you it’s not that bad. “There’s movie night in a real theatre with real popcorn”, “prizes at bingo”, “we get to play outside in the garden” “we make tons of art”, “we sing and dance” “we have friends here” “and we party”!
It’s that same spirit that guided Molly every day. Her hospital friends were her favorite part of cancer. Kids that understood medical terminology, and that IV poles not only held medicine, but were a means for transportation. Kids that were just like her. Bald. Brave. Beautiful.
In continuing Molly’s legacy of love and laughter, we raise critical funds for The Child Life program at Randall Children’s Hospital.
The Heroes’ Challenge
The Heroes’ Challenge is a Race and Fundraiser for local military Heroes held on the morning of the 4th of July. Proceeds go directly to supporting local Heroes’ and their families when “Right Now” assistance is needed!
The Heroes’ Challenge Race includes a10K-5K-or 1K Walk/Run, zero-elevation, in-out course, along the beautiful Columbia River dike, with majestic Mt. Hood standing sentinel on the horizon, as you travel eastward.
Thank you for having the Backs of Heroes! Every paid challenger receives the official, Heroes’ Challenger’s Dog-tag and admission to the Patriots’ BBQ and Concert. For those 21 and over, there will also be a Challenger’s Beer Garden. The Children’s 1K is free and only includes the Dog-tag. Additional BBQ & Concert tickets are available for $10 each and can be purchased at the time of registration or, if needed purchased the day-of. Register NOW to get your T-Shirt! If you register by May 31, challengers will be sure to receive a complimentary performance T-shirt! There will only be a limited number of shirts and sizes after May 31, and there is NO guarantee of a t-shirt after May 31.
Event Schedule… Day of registration opens at 8am. Opening Ceremony begins at 9am, the 10K Run starts at 9:15am, 5K Fun Walk/Run–starts at 9:30 and a FREE 1K for Children 9 and younger starts at 9:45am. The Virtual Race (come–cheer and stay for the BBQ & Concert) starts at 9:15. The Awards Ceremony–10:30am, followed by the Patriots BBQ-Concert (& Beer Garden for Challengers 21 years and older) 11am-2pm. Raffle tickets will also be sold to help support Point Man Ministries’ “Right Now” fund. Prizes include a night at Skamania Lodge and Pendleton’s ‘Grateful Nation’ blanket. The drawing will be at 1:30pm and you do not need to be present, to win.
Recognition is amazing… Official Heroes’ Challenge Dog-tags will be presented to all challengers as they RTB (Return To Base)/cross the finish line. An American Eagle in flight trophy will be awarded for the first man and woman to RTB in the 10K & 5K, as well as 2nd and 3rd place Event Medals will be awarded in those events. These 2-events are professionally timed by Scovel Racing.

Bernard G. Deazley, IV was appointed as the Assistant Director VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) in January 2014. Prior to his appoint-ment, Mr. Deazley served as the Executive Assistant to Chief of Staff at VAPORHCS. Mr. Deazley joined the VA through the student studies program following graduate school. During his VA tenure, Mr. Deazley has held positions of progressive responsibility in research and development, primary care, mental health, operative care and the executive staff. Mr. Deazley has also served at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System.
Mr. Deazley is a graduate of the Annenberg Leadership Institute and VHA’s Healthcare Leadership Develop Program. Mr. Deazley received his Bachelor of Science degree from Willamette University (Salem, Oregon) and earned his Master of Public Administration degree at the Lewis & Clark College (Portland, Oregon).
Mr. Deazley is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
