CMAC Holiday Potluck Party
As we approach the end of the year, we want to take a moment to thank you all for being an invaluable part of this organization. Your dedication and contributions have made a significant impact, and we are grateful for all you do.
Thank you again for all your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the holiday potluck party in December.
Community event; Santa at the Marshall House
The Marshall House will be beautifully decorated and ready for your holiday photos. Santa will be here receiving hand-delivered letters and holiday wish lists. Guests can make holiday crafts, write a letter to Santa, listen to a holiday story, and simply enjoy some quality family time. All children will receive goodie bags with hot chocolate and a treat to enjoy at home.
The first hour of Santa’s visit, 9:00 am to 10:00 am, will be reserved for individuals and groups with neurodiverse members who require less stimulating environments. Fewer reservations will be taken, and sounds and stimuli will be restrained. Please help us share holiday magic with our entire community by only reserving spots during this time if a member of your party has sensory issues.
Reservations are FREE and will be available starting Monday, November 18.
Thank you to Columbia Credit Union for sponsoring this event!

U.S. Marine Corps Birthday
The official birthday of the United States Marine Corps is on 10 November 1775. That was the day when the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Marines with the following decree:
That two battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one Colonel, two lieutenant-colonels, two majors and other officers, as usual in other regiments; that they consist of an equal number of privates as with other battalions, that particular care be taken that no persons be appointed to offices, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve for and during the present war with Great Britain and the Colonies; unless dismissed by Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the First and Second Battalions of Marines.
Daylight Saving Time ends
When is the end of daylight saving time in 2024? Set your clocks back Sunday, Nov. 3.
Set your clocks back one hour at 2 am.
Daylight saving time was once known as ‘war time’
A March 2019 Department of Defense article mentioned daylight saving time was once known as “war time.”
When the Standard Time Act was signed into law March 19, 1918, daylight saving time became official. More daylight hours during the day would potentially help save energy costs during World War I. The law also established the time zones we know today.
The article states daylight saving time “was only in effect for about a year and a half, though, before it was repealed due to the war’s end, despite President Woodrow Wilson vetoing the repeal.”
Then, during World War II in February 1942, “Congress implemented a law instating a national daylight saving time to help conserve fuel and ‘promote national security and defense,’ which is why it was nicknamed ‘war time.’ The time zones were even known as that: Eastern War Time, Pacific War Time, etc.,” according to the Department of Defense.
