Community Military Appreciation Committee’s “Heroes Night” Celebration
The Community Military Appreciation Committee (CMAC) presents our fifth annual Southwest Washington “Heroes Night” celebration. Join us Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the East Vancouver Costco located at 19610 SE 1st St. (on the corner of SE 1st Street and 192nd Avenue). The event will kick off with a car show starting at 3:00 PM hosted by the NW Corvette Club, then continue inside Costco from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Like last year, we will have a vintage aircraft flyover kicking off the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about and meet local heroes from various veteran and active military organizations, firefighters, EMT’s, Police, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, our Northwest “Battle Buddies” (trained service dogs), “War Horses with Warriors” with one or more of their therapeutic riding horses, and their veteran companions, to name a few.
There will be one night only specials, door prizes, kids’ activities, food and more. Plus, sponsors will be on hand giving out Costco Memberships to the community. Some of the door prizes available are a 65″ TV, Patio Set, Traeger grill, Tommy Bahama Cooler, and Patio Swing. FireHouse Subs will be giving away free mini-subs and the Fire and Ice Food Cart will be on hand and donating a portion of the proceeds to CMAC.
Everyone is welcome, no Costco Membership is needed to shop during the event!

A car show featuring both classic and modern cars, trucks and motorcycles, music along with food from Firehouse Subs will kick off at 3:00 pm. Some unique attendees will include vintage military vehicles and the 40 et 8’s “Loci” that is a regular in our community’s various parades.
Between 4-4:30 PM, three vintage aircraft (biplanes) will do a flyover to kick off the event.
This marks our second year giving out the “Bill Morehouse Community Service Award,” in honor of our beloved “Buffalo Soldiers.” This award honors first responders who go “above and beyond” in their selfless contributions to the nearly half million citizens of this region both on and off the job. We will be highlighting two of our local First Responders, VPD Officer Julie Ballou and CCSO Deputy Albin Boyse, for their “Above and Beyond” work with area youth through the Police Activities League. “Bill Morehouse Community Service Awards” will also be presented to three of CMAC’s own: Julie Berger, James Mead and Dan Tarbell.
We will also be recognizing our very own “Rosie the Riveter,”. This year, on the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I, we are honoring Vancouver’s own “Rosie the Riveter” Priscilla Elizabeth Messinger. While representing one of our Second World War Heroines, let us not forget those women who also supported and sacrificed in the “War to End All Wars.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit CMAC, which is an all-inclusive organization reflecting a diverse cross-section of our community focused on serving Gold Star Moms/Families, homeless vets, and those whose needs are not otherwise being met. CMAC includes youth, active/reserve military, and various veterans groups. CMAC also plans and executes community-wide events, such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, “Our Community Salutes,” and POW/MIA Day ceremonies, as well as recognition/support of military families of all services. Learn more about CMAC at www.cmac11.com.
Cruise the Couve
Thanks to a number of local businesses stepping up to manage and sponsor the event, the Main Street car culture phenomenon formerly known as Cruisin’ the Gut returns this year with a new name.
Join us as we celebrate this classic Vancouver tradition of cruising Main Street on a Saturday night! Show off your sweet ride in the cruise or grab a lawn chair and watch the show from the sidewalk. There will be entertainment, giveaways, food and more!
The cruise occurs on Main Street in downtown and uptown Vancouver, between 28th Street and 6th Street. All normal traffic rules apply, so keep it cool!
HOT RODS, CLASSICS & KUSTOMS PREFERRED, but as long as it looks cool and/or sounds cool, bring it out!
The event officially starts at 10 a.m., but people tend to show up as early as 6 a.m. to claim a great sidewalk viewing spot and then stay all day!
