With a diverse and authentic repertoire, Dancehall Days has been thrilling audiences all over the western United States. The band has headlined the Portland Rock n Roll Half Marathon, and recently joined Mick Fleetwood for a performance in Lahaina, Maui on New Year’s Eve.

Beatnik history can be traced back to the steamy coffee shops and poetry dens of Soho. Today, the Beatnik legacy lives on in four men who perform the music of the 60s, 70s, and sometimes 80s. The Beatniks emote not only in their music, but in their humor, intensity and spontaneity on stage.

+ Sunday, July 7: Five Guys Named Moe

Named after the 1943 hit song by Louis Jordan, Five Guys Named Moe began as a 5-piece band in 1984. Over the past 30 years, the group has grown into a slammin’ 12-piece show band including a 5-piece horn section, back-up vocalists and as many as six lead singers in a night!

The concert series that kicked it all off — in 2000! Celebrate summer with us on Thursday evenings while listening to our fantastic bands play the sun down. Bring your family and friends down to Esther Short Park, put down a picnic blanket and some lawn chairs and enjoy. Enjoy food provided by a variety of local vendors or bring your own pre-prepared food (BBQs are not allowed at Esther Short Park). Alcohol is not allowed except for in the fenced Pub in the Park area (see below).

Beer and wine will be available for purchase at these events in a fenced beer garden. Inspired by Talking Heads and the epic 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, Life During Wartime began performing as a 7-piece lineup. The band performs Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads discography, and their own original materials in venues around the country.

Playing hits from all eras from “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees to “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz, Hit Machine is a mainstay in the Portland metro area. The band has headlined Hood to Coast, Independence Day at Fort Vancouver, and many Portland Trailblazers games.

Woodland Planters Days Community Celebration

Woodland’s 92nd annual community celebration hosts its biggest events today with the Woodland Planters Days Parade at 11 a.m. Visitors also can explore the carnival and Saturday Market; visit the firemen’s barbecue from noon to 3 p.m.; cheer on the participants of the 47th annual frog jump competition at 1:30 p.m.; enjoy the 12th annual bed races at 4 p.m.; and attend a car cruise-in at 7 p.m. followed by a concert. The festivities continue Sunday with all-day car shows and a talent contest at noon. The carnival will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

When: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Where: Downtown Woodland, Fifth Street and Davidson Avenue; Horseshoe Lake Park, Goerig Street and Park Road; Woodland Moose Lodge, 133 Davidson Ave., Woodland.
