Clark County Historical Museum will launch its 2020 History on Tap season at the Kiggins Theatre on Thursday, January 16, with “Clark County’s Brewing History: From Fort Vancouver to Fortside.” Doors open at 6:00 PM and the event begins at 7:00 PM.
This presentation will serve as a public introduction to the museum’s upcoming exhibit, “History A-Brewin’,” which will celebrate Clark County’s extensive brewing history and commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of prohibition.
For the event, keynote speaker and CCHM executive director Brad Richardson will discuss brewing in the time of the Hudson’s Bay Company and Vancouver Barracks; the era of prohibition; the Women’s Christian Temperance Union; and the establishment and growth of Great Western Malting.
“Last year, Steve Bader explored our contemporary craft brewing scene for our inaugural History on Tap event,” Richardson said. “This January, we’ll look at the earliest brewers in the Pacific Northwest and how those efforts shaped today’s thriving brewing industries.”
The evening will begin with a game show style segment in which three members of the audience will be invited on stage to answer a series of historical questions about Clark County and beyond. Another segment, “Ask Pat,” will feature local historian Pat Jollota’s answer to one question about local history, as selected from social media (#AskPat), email, or submitted through the museum.
Admission to History on Tap is $15 in advance, or $18 the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased at the Kiggins Theatre Box Office, Clark County Historical Museum, or online at Kiggins Theatre: History on Tap.
