The US Army Ambulance Service in World War I
World War I brought many devastating advances in the types and lethality of weapons on the battlefield. In addition to the ability to take life, technology also brought an increase in the ability of medicine to save lives on the battlefield. World War I saw horse drawn ambulances replaced by motorized ambulances. Before the United States entered World War I as a combatant, many citizens came to Europe as volunteers.
