Vancouver Outpatient Imaging Center (VOICE) ribbon cutting/open house
You are invited to a VAPORHCS Director-hosted ribbon-cutting event and open house on May 15, 2:00 – 3:30 pm for our newly completed Vancouver Outpatient Imaging Center (VOICE) on the Vancouver campus.
VOICE is a temporary ambulatory outpatient imaging center that provides Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy for the first time on our VA Vancouver campus. The planning stages continue to build a larger complex with the capacity to provide additional services. (see attached photos).
This is not a big or very formal event, but it is certainly a service and fantastic facility worth celebrating.
VOICE is located just off the far west road of the Vancouver Campus near the gym.
Community Military Appreciation Committee’s “Heroes Night” Celebration
The Community Military Appreciation Committee (CMAC) presents our fifth annual Southwest Washington “Heroes Night” celebration. Join us Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the East Vancouver Costco located at 19610 SE 1st St. (on the corner of SE 1st Street and 192nd Avenue). The event will kick off with a car show starting at 3:00 PM hosted by the NW Corvette Club, then continue inside Costco from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Like last year, we will have a vintage aircraft flyover kicking off the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about and meet local heroes from various veteran and active military organizations, firefighters, EMT’s, Police, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, our Northwest “Battle Buddies” (trained service dogs), “War Horses with Warriors” with one or more of their therapeutic riding horses, and their veteran companions, to name a few.
There will be one night only specials, door prizes, kids’ activities, food and more. Plus, sponsors will be on hand giving out Costco Memberships to the community. Some of the door prizes available are a 65″ TV, Patio Set, Traeger grill, Tommy Bahama Cooler, and Patio Swing. FireHouse Subs will be giving away free mini-subs and the Fire and Ice Food Cart will be on hand and donating a portion of the proceeds to CMAC.
Everyone is welcome, no Costco Membership is needed to shop during the event!

A car show featuring both classic and modern cars, trucks and motorcycles, music along with food from Firehouse Subs will kick off at 3:00 pm. Some unique attendees will include vintage military vehicles and the 40 et 8’s “Loci” that is a regular in our community’s various parades.
Between 4-4:30 PM, three vintage aircraft (biplanes) will do a flyover to kick off the event.
This marks our second year giving out the “Bill Morehouse Community Service Award,” in honor of our beloved “Buffalo Soldiers.” This award honors first responders who go “above and beyond” in their selfless contributions to the nearly half million citizens of this region both on and off the job. We will be highlighting two of our local First Responders, VPD Officer Julie Ballou and CCSO Deputy Albin Boyse, for their “Above and Beyond” work with area youth through the Police Activities League. “Bill Morehouse Community Service Awards” will also be presented to three of CMAC’s own: Julie Berger, James Mead and Dan Tarbell.
We will also be recognizing our very own “Rosie the Riveter,”. This year, on the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I, we are honoring Vancouver’s own “Rosie the Riveter” Priscilla Elizabeth Messinger. While representing one of our Second World War Heroines, let us not forget those women who also supported and sacrificed in the “War to End All Wars.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit CMAC, which is an all-inclusive organization reflecting a diverse cross-section of our community focused on serving Gold Star Moms/Families, homeless vets, and those whose needs are not otherwise being met. CMAC includes youth, active/reserve military, and various veterans groups. CMAC also plans and executes community-wide events, such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, “Our Community Salutes,” and POW/MIA Day ceremonies, as well as recognition/support of military families of all services. Learn more about CMAC at www.cmac11.com.

CHILDREN’S CULTURAL PARADE
CHILDREN’S CULTURAL PARADE BRINGS OVER 1,500 STUDENTS TO FORT VANCOUVER NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
News Release from Fort Vancouver National Historic Site
Posted on FlashAlert: May 3rd, 2018 12:29 PM
The parade will include marching bands from local schools and over 1,500 third and fourth grade students celebrating the community’s diversity. “These students have worked hard for months in their classrooms to study cultures from around the globe while rediscovering their family’s and their community’s cultural heritage,” said Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Superintendent, Tracy Fortmann.
City of Vancouver Mayor, Anne McEnerny-Ogle, Superintendent Fortmann, and school district leaders will lead the parade through Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, one of 419 units of the National Park system.
Once the students enter the reconstructed stockade, National Park Service volunteers will greet visitors wearing 1840s traditional clothing, highlighting Vancouver’s diverse past.
The entire procession will assemble in the courtyard in front of the reconstructed Chief Factor’s House to hear music and brief remarks from the mayor, superintendent, dignitaries, and featured students. Music will be provided by the Vancouver Community Concert Band, under the direction of Erin Hanson. The public is encouraged to join the students, mayor and other dignitaries at 11:00 am inside the reconstructed fort. The entry fee will be waived for the event which is scheduled to conclude at 11:45 am.
“Over 170 years ago, Fort Vancouver stood as the center of cultural diversity in the Pacific Northwest,” said Fortmann, “so it is very appropriate that we continue to celebrate our diversity here, in this nationally significant place–our national park. This event best exemplifies how this national park belongs to everyone, and it’s a special opportunity for each student to celebrate diversity with family, classmates, and our supportive community at one of our national treasures,” Fortmann said.
The community is encouraged to line the parade route and cheer on the children from the local school districts. Ideal viewing areas are along the Park Road or the pathway leading from East Fifth Street into the reconstructed stockade.
Public parking is available within the park and surrounding areas. Due to road closures on the east entrances to the park to accommodate the parade, it is recommended that visitors enter from the northwest corner of the park on Fort Vancouver Way. Parking is available at designated parking lots on Evergreen Blvd. and on East 5th Street. Additional parking is also available at the NPS Visitor Center and at the Reconstructed Fort parking lot, however for parade route safety, both of these parking lots will be closed to incoming and outgoing vehicular traffic from 9:00 am to 11:40 am.
What: Children’s Culture Parade
Where: Parade begins at Pearson Air Museum (1501 E. 5th Street), heads north on east Reserve Street, west on Evergreen Boulevard, south on the park road, and ends at the reconstructed Fort Vancouver (1001 E. 5th Street).
